Heart Health Month
February is American Heart Month! Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the goal is to raise awareness and educate Americans on the importance of heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in America, about 1 in 4 cases. Preventative measures include managing blood pressure and cholestrol, eating a balanced diet, and exercising.
Traditionally, schools participate in American Heart Month with a program called Jump Rope for Heart, which teaches children the importance of heart health and exercise. This year, Sojourn is joining the mission of American Heart Month with a Heart Health Marathon on February 12th, the same day as Jump Rope for Heart!
For the Heart Health Marathon, Sojourners will sign for 20-minute time slots of continuous exercise. Moving bodies make for healthy hearts!
