Barbara swam for her school swim team for two years. They competed against local schools, and she won many ribbons over those two years. Swimming takes a lot of practice to strengthen and train muscles, so the team practiced during the week and on Saturday mornings.
Swimming gave personal comfort to Barbara. It helped her have fun and feel good about herself while keeping her away from an abusive father. For her, swimming didn’t just better her body; it bettered her mind.
