Sojourn Spotlight: Brenda

Brenda joined our Sojourn team just 9 months ago, but she is no stranger to excellent caregiving! Brenda has 16 years of nursing home experience, and several of those years were at Minnesota Masonic Homes in New Hope, one of the largest facilities of the time.

In March 2018, Brenda decided she wanted a fresh focus in her career. She heard about the Project Coordinator position from a current Sojourn employee, and soon she arrived at the Day Center to share her skills with us! Brenda coordinates many of the art projects and games, and she shares her musical talents by leading the Friday morning hymn sing at the piano.

Her musicality makes her an invaluable to Jennifer Hicks, our music therapist and choir director. She has been an exceptionally great help during Christmas concert rehearsals! Brenda accompanies Jennifer on the piano, helps direct the hand bell choir, and helps singers and players practice.

Brenda continues to be grateful for her career change. She has a passion for helping people feel loved and valued for who they are, and she has that opportunity daily at Sojourn. The variety of programming ensures that everyone finds purpose and joy to enrich their day. Whether it’s a rowdy game of bingo or a quiet afternoon of drawing, Brenda strives to help Sojourners find an activity that is meaningful and exciting.

“You learn so much when you are available to help people,” Brenda says. Experiencing life by supporting those who need a helping hand changes how she sees the world.

When she is not at Sojourn, Brenda enjoys spending time with her family. She has 5 children, 3 of them still at home. They love to watch movies together. She also enjoys working with her hands, be it sewing, piano, or another craft. She also enjoys “a little shopping. Who doesn’t?”

We are blessed to have you on our Sojourn team, Brenda! Thank you for helping us make great days!
